Photo from my 40th birthday

I was pretty pissed and spotted the opportunity to "Do a Lynndie", minus the smoke (or pen)*

Back to work

Well , today we are back at work. We were taken out by the crew for a traditional lunch. Very cheap (about $1.50 each), although we didn't pay for it, and very tasty. It is Merderka tomorrow. Merderka is the Malay word for freedom.

On Saturday night, Hans, Morrie, Hugh and myself went to the Beach Club, which was recommended to us by Rory, who has since gone home. Initially we were paying $8 for a jug of beer, but later on the price increased to about $22. By this stage we were so pissed we didn't mind. I had some dodgy whisky with a few of the locals. There was a good band on, playing things like "Guns and Roses", "Jet" and "Led Zep". After the band finished they played a song by "50 cent" through the house system and Hans and I ended up on stage, much to the delight of Morrie. I had a dance with a beggar out on the street, much to the delight of both Hans and Morrie. Hugh left a bit early as he had a busy day planned on the Sunday. I got back to the hotel at 2:30 am, Hans and Morrie arrived to find the morning papers attached to their door!!

I spent all day Sunday in bed, and have vowed not to drink for the rest of the trip!!*

Tomorrow we have a day off, I will post more on Wednesday night.

* This will probably change.

Sore head (part 2)

Well, it turns out that the opening of the restaurant is a 5 day thing, so we felt obliged to attend again last night. We missed the free piss but we stopped anyway and had something to eat. It looks highly likely that we will make the most of the free grog as it is a bit expensive here. I am going on to shift work next week so my alcohol intake will decrease dramatically.

Below is a photo of the twin Petronas Towers, which can be viewed from our hotel.

Sore head

Hans, Rory, Morrie, Hugo and myself were invited to an opening of a restaurant near our hotel last night. Beer and Scotch were free for an hour and a half. Beer is the only expensive thing over here. We can get a big plate of Curry with a can of coke for $2 but beer is roughly the same price as Sydney. Anyway, as it was free, we had 10 or 12 beers. I am still feeling the effects and it is 2pm. BTW it is my 40th Birthday today and I am expected to go out for a few beers tonight, but i will take it a bit easier.

We saw an accident on the way to work this morning. A car had gone off the motorway and was wrapped around a tree. They were cutting the roof off as we went past, I don't know if anyone survived, I can't see it. Unfortunately this is a regular occurence over here, we have seen or heard of at least one major prang per day since we have been here.

We are staying at the Sheraton Imperial in KL, a 5 star hotel. It is worth every cent EDS are paying, let me tell you!! I get a paper delivered daily, 2 litres of bottled water, a fruit basket and a mint on my pillow as well.

We have done some haggling down at the markets, visited some caves, where Macaque monkeys run free, cheeky little buggers they are too. They should all be hoyed into the sea.*

Nothing else to add yet - will post some more later.
